There are stories out there about breaking of the screws of the Front Carrier Block and leaving a stub inside the hole. To avoid problems here I decided to exchange the screws with new ones. No big thing – just in case..
The Front Carrier Block is attached to the head tube of the bike with two M5 screws. To get access to the screws you have to remove the plastic sprung latch lever that locks your bag. Use a cross head screwdriver to remove the single screw.
Clean the holes. If you see some blue powder: it is dried Loctite threadlocker. You should have a bottle available to prevent the release or loosening of the new screws. I use Loctite 243 with a breakaway torque of 26Nm. You feel the threadlocker when you remove the screws – they stick to the thread. Don’t damage the thread – take care how much force you apply.
There is a washer for each screw and a metal plate. You need them with the new screws too. Nothing special here – easy to remove.
I use two stainless steel screws to replace the old ones. Marked A2-70 it is classic stainless steel with a tensile strength of at least 700 N/mm2. You see the old threadlocker on the thread of the screw.
I put some threadlocker on the screws and remount everything. The torque to be used here is 4Nm – tighten the screws carefully – do not overtighten them – a torque wrench helps a lot.
