This is just a short illustrated walk through the replacing of the rear sprockets on a 6-speed Brompton.
1.
Go an get yourself a new Brompton sprocket/disc set to fit on the Brompton/Sturmey Archer wide range (BWR) rear hub ( if this is the hub you run in your Brompton). The set includes a nylon chain guard, a 13 and a 16 teeth sprocket, a spacer and a circlip.
2.
Remove on the right side
- the Gear indicator chain
- the chain tensioner nut
- the chain tensioner
- and finally the axle nut.
3.
Remove the axle nut on the left side. Now you can remove the rear wheel
4.
Remove the circlip with a screwdriver. It’s easy – not much power needed.
5.
Remove all sprockets, the spacer and the plastic guard
6.
The old stuff is gone now – time to start with the new parts.
7.
Clean the hub and add some grease to the threads of the hub
8.
Reassemble everything with the new parts. We start with the plastic guard and the larger sprocket.
9.
Finally the spacer, the smaller sprocket and the clip:
- plastic guard
- large sprocket
- spacer
- small sprocket
- clip
10.
Finished. Just remount your wheel into the Brompton and you are done

Hi Chris,
this is no live chat – sorry – you can ask me if you like and I’ll do my best to answer – but it may take a while.
Best,
