I really don’t like it when my bike gets noisy. The Brompton startet to squeak last week and I located the source of the sound very fast: the folding pedal on the left side of my Brompton. This is a known problem with the Brompton pedal – the construction with only one bearing isn’t made to last for ever. So I had to decide if I should buy a new Brompton pedal that will last maybe one or two years or look for another solution.
Here is what I got now: from the Mikashima Industrial Co.,Ltd. (MKS) the Lambda Ezy Superior. The “Ezy” tag means “easy de-attachable” and this is done with an adapter mounted to the crank arm. The new Ezy Superior series has a different adapter then the older Ezy series. The new version secures the pedal better then the old one (turn and pull to release).
Here you see the separated pedal and the adapter. The axel has a little bit grease on it – we will see if this is a problem when I remove the pedal.
The space between the adapter and your crank arm is limited – you need a narrow wrench to mount the adapter. And remember: the thread on the left side has to be turned into the reversed direction. Should be fixed with 30NM.
For the left folding pedal (pre 2012) you need a 24mm socket to remove the pedal. Don’t forget some grease on the thread when mounting the new ones.
I do like the look of the new pedals. My feet rest perfectly on those “Wide Platform Pedals”, they offer a serious grip.
If you remove the left pedal the folded Brompton comes with the same dimensions as with the original folding pedal. I will have to check out how easy the removal of the MKS pedal will be in the daily usage.

[…] the Lambda Ezy pedal and the adapter (in real life the adapter fixed to the crank arm of the Brompton). A nice […]
I’ve got the same pedals but not “easy de-attachable” version. I have to say I’ve considering getting the version you have as I’m toying with the idea of doing clipless or something along those lines in the future.
Great little blog you have a look forward to seeing more :)
Thanks a lot! The clipless option was one idea behind this selection for me too. For my everyday ride with the public transport I needed the removable pedal to get the extra space.
I do my “faster” rides on my Moulton at the moment – with clipless pedals. My Brompton should get this opportunity too – soon…
Cheers,
Detlef
Hi Detlef,
I am looking to replace my stock Brompton pedals with the lambda easy superior removable one. Would you mind telling me where you purchased these (I hope in the EU, don’t fancy import duties).
Thanks and keep up the great writing and ideas!
